Major lessons learned from the previous program projects

The organization has gained lots of learning and experiences from the field to centre. Some of the experienced learning are as follows:

  1. stitutional development and social mobilization combined with economic activities intervention has been generated sustainable outputs and outcomes within shortest period of time.
  2. stitutional development and social mobilization combined with economic activities intervention has been generated sustainable outputs and outcomes within shortest period of time.
  3. Our learning revealed that livelihood activities integrated with financial service have performed better than those running with hand outs from external support. Similarly, skill trainings provided to microfinance clients have resulted into gainful employment than to those without linkage. As access to financial resource is one of the critical aspects for production and women themselves know how best the loan can be used, provision of complimentary service such as skill training, marketing linkage support etc adds value in this process. So the group should be linked with MFIs.
  4. Linking the social development with economic development bring into substantial qualitative output and sustainable economic growth.
  5. Community contribution brings ownership of the program.
  6. Activities that have been performed remarkably well in the past are scaled up.
  7. Market led approach was adopted to promote activities having highest market potential. MRC Nepal collaborated with government, or privately owned institutes and industrial installations to provide necessary skills so that their abilities for enhancement of better employment.
  8. Business plan contributed substantially to the families to start up their enterprises.
  9. Coordination/linkage and transparency was one of the imperatives to move toward to implement the project efficiently and effectively.
  10. Group registration in the government bodies that empowered the farmers to build a trust and working as alliance with government line.
  11. Bottom up and demand led- activities contributed sustainability.
  12. Implementation of livelihood interventions on a strategic way have resulted outstanding performance and significant impact on the lives of people within a short period of time that created high demands of livelihood program in the adjoining areas (VDCs and districts). Scaling up of activities is guided by positive impact and performances.
  13. For long-term commercial vegetable production, there is a greater need of irrigation facilities consistent water requirement for the off-season vegetable production in project locations.
  14. Better marketing linkage and management system that guided them for better price by selling their products at local, regional and national market. An additional support on marketing should be prioritized that includes collection center widening with physical facilities and resources.
  15. More motivation and follow up needed for the pro-poor and disadvantaged group of farmers including deprived women to bring into mainstream of developmental activities.
  16. Market price fluctuation in some locations hampers the expected income of the farmers so interventions through market system analysis would be needed.
